Job Title: Lineman
Duties: Perform skilled work in the construction and maintenance of electric cable and powerline systems, and adhere to strict safety regulations.

Must have successfully completed approved Lineman Apprenticeship Program or equivalent experience and training. Must successfully complete placement/performance exercises. Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver License from state of residence.

Exposed to weather, traffic conditions and high voltage; subject to storm or emergency work and the normal hazards of construction work and physical activities such as climbing, walking, standing, bending, stooping, heavy lifting/pulling/pushing.

Job Title: Special Officer (Shift work required)

Duties: Assist in the protection and security of Division personnel and property and any other phase of security work as directed.

High school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.). Must successfully complete Customer Contact Test. Must have at least two years of full-time Corporate Security or law enforcement experience. Must successfully complete training for commission required by the Department of Commerce and Insurance and NIMS Training within one year of entering job. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Deputy Commission through the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any felony or misdemeanor to any federal/state laws or city ordinance relating to force; violence; theft; dishonesty; sale, manufacture or distribution of controlled substances, drugs or narcotics; and have not been released or discharged under any condition other than honorable from any of the armed forces of the United States. Must have at least 20/70 vision in each eye corrected to 20/20 with normal color vision and depth perception. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Job Title: Maintenance Machinist

Duties: Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and manufacture or repair various metal items.

Must have successfully completed approved Maintenance Machinist Apprenticeship Program or equivalent experience and training. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 03A “Mechanics”)/Performance Exercises. Must have valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works inside and outside. Subject to balancing, climbing/falling from ladders/high structures, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching and standing for long periods of time while working on equipment, cuts/burns working with industrial machinery and heavy lifting.

Job Title: Security Dispatcher

Duties:Dispatch Security Officers or service agencies, as appropriate and monitor radios, alarms, and outside cameras via the CCTV system during their assigned shift.

High school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) and two years of security dispatch experience. Must successfully complete appropriate NERC Certification Exam within six months of entering job. Must successfully complete NIMS Training within one year of entering job. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Work in an office environment. Subject to sitting for long periods, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Requires continual use of computer keyboard, monitors, radios, and other peripheral devices. May be required to make spontaneous decisions.

Job Title: Mechanic

Duties: Perform mechanical maintenance/repair work on Division vehicles and heavy equipment in shop and/or field.

Associate degree in Automotive Technology; OR successfully completed Mechanic Apprenticeship program; OR have four current ASE/FPS certifications; OR four years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles, or medium duty trucks or heavy equipment. ASE certifications A1-Engine Repair, or T1-Gasoline Engines, or T2-Diesel Engines and A6-Electrical/Electronics Systems or T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems are required, and based on departmental needs, the two remaining certifications will be determined from an approved ASE/FPS list. The approved ASE/FPS list includes: A1-A8; T1-T6, T8; F1; L1; and/or FPS certifications which include Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic, Hydraulic Technician and/or Application/Electronics Specialist. Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial driver’s license from state of residence within trial or probationary period after entering classification. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 03C “Mechanics”)/Performance Exercises. Must pass Color Blind I Test. Must be able to differentiate sounds when making adjustments.

Works inside and outside. Subject to hazards of operating machinery and irritation from oils, solvents, chemicals and fumes. Make service calls in the field. Performs heavy lifting. Subject to climbing, standing/walking for extended periods, and working in uncomfortable positions.
