Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division’s Weaver-Gill Pipeline Project has begun construction. The 5.4-mile project will run from Gill Road in Barton Heights to Weaver Road.  In the weeks ahead, residents will see notices about road and sidewalk closures and other related information.

The Weaver-Gill Pipeline Project is a $30 million modernization project to improve the pipeline distribution of natural gas in South Memphis. The new pipeline will be in service by October.

The new 24” high-pressure distribution pipeline replaces two 18” extra high-pressure gas transmission pipelines that previously had been in operation since 1929 and 1940 respectively; those lines were shut down and gas was safely removed on April 17, 2025.

The project will impact several streets and be in close proximity to a number of homes and businesses; however, customers will not experience an interruption of gas service.

This site is intended to keep residents and businesses apprised of the progress. Impacted residents can login here for project specifics.
