MLGW Asks Customers to Continue Conservation Methods Today
June 25, 2025

Memphis Light, Gas and Water is encouraging all customers to reduce electricity usage today and this evening voluntarily. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has activated its Emergency Load Curtailment Program due to high demand across the region.

These conservation measures are being implemented across the entire TVA service area in response to extremely high temperatures and increased electricity consumption. TVA's actions are designed to reduce pressure on the electric grid and maintain stable, reliable power for everyone.

This situation is not unique to Memphis—local power companies throughout the TVA region are responding to the same challenges. MLGW remains committed to transparency and will continue to keep customers informed about the situation and the actions being taken. Our shared goal is to help lighten the load on the system so that power disruptions can be avoided.

Here’s how you can make a difference today:

· Turn off unnecessary lights and electronics

· Raise your thermostat a few degrees, if health permits

· Delay using large appliances like dishwashers, washing machines or dryers until late tonight

· Charge electric vehicles during off-peak hours if possible

Small changes by thousands of homes and businesses can help stabilize the grid.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and support during this period of high demand.
