MLGW to Sponsor Special Olympics Sportsfest April 21
April 20, 2012

The MLGW Special Olympics Sportsfest will be held on April 21 at Rhodes College. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. and games will begin at 9:30 a.m.

This year marks the 24th year that MLGW has sponsored the event, with dozens of MLGW employee volunteers assisting with the Special Olympics festivities including volleyball and power lifting.

The public is welcome and encouraged to witness the tremendous athletic abilities demonstrated by children with disabilities in our community. The strength, endurance and skill of these children will be showcased in a variety of events.

“MLGW salutes the children who are participating in this weekend’s Special Olympics Sportsfest,” said MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr. “These athletes are an inspiration to us all, and MLGW is proud to be a sponsor of this event.”

The Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to more than 3.7 million athletes in more than 170 countries. Special Olympics competitions are held every day, all over the world, including local, national and regional competitions, adding up to about 50,000 events a year. MLGW is an annual sponsor of the Special Olympics Sportsfest each spring at Rhodes College.
