Gas Odor in the Air on October 21 and 22
October 20, 2026
MLGW gas crews will perform routine maintenance involving mercaptan at Park Avenue and Philadelphia Street on Wednesday, October 21, and Thursday, October 22, 2026.
This routine work will last from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
The public in the surrounding area may smell mercaptan in the air. Mercaptan is the chemical odorant that MLGW adds to natural gas to give it the rotten egg/sulfur smell so it can be easily detected.
Depending on the wind/weather conditions, residents and businesses in the vicinity could smell this strong, sulfuric odor during the morning or from the odorant truck as it travels from each point
