A $68 charge goes into effect after October 1

Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division offers free pilot light safety inspections for residential customers September 2-30. Customers can schedule appointments now.

Pilot light safety inspections are always free for customers who are 60 or older and customers with disabilities.

Appointments are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the following time periods:

· 8 a.m. – noon

· Noon – 4 p.m.

· 4 – 8 p.m. (Tuesday through Thursday only)

Customers can call 901-544-6549 to schedule an appointment. MLGW's Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system can also be used to schedule an appointment using the customer's 16-digit account number or telephone number.

After October 1, inspections are $68. The charge will appear on the customer’s next utility bill. There is an extra equipment charge of $19 per additional piece of equipment. If a pilot is already lit but a safety inspection is requested, the charge remains $68.

Pilot light safety inspections conclude December 31.
