MLGW Resumes Disconnects
February 6, 2026

Memphis Light, Gas and Water is resuming service disconnections for non-payment after suspending them for almost two weeks due to frigid temperatures and ice accumulation.

It is the policy of MLGW to not disconnect any residential accounts for non-payment whenever the forecast wind chill factor will be 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below (freezing) for a period of 24 hours or more.

MLGW encourages customers to make payments or arrangements. Customers can check their balances in My Account. (Sign up in the MLGW app or on mlgw.com with 16-digit account number and access code on the bill.) Customers can also call (901) 544-6549 and make arrangements through MLGW’s automated system or with a Service Advisor.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving the residents of Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee since 1939. MLGW consistently provides customers with rates that are amongst the lowest in the nation and stewards a water supply from artesian wells that is minimally treated. Actively engaged in promoting the prosperity of Memphis and Shelby County, MLGW supports the seven local chambers in its service area and makes doing business with local, minority- and women-owned business a priority. Deeply rooted in the community, its employees generously donate time and money in support of bettering the Greater Memphis area.
