Report water leaks inside homes and businesses as well as on the street to 901-528-4465
MLGW’s water system is operating within the normal range. Crews are working around the clock to locate and repair water main breaks, which often occur in winter. (When the ground is frozen, the pipes contract. When the ground thaws, the pipes expand and burst.)
Weekend temperatures are forecast to be in the teens. MLGW is prepared and asks that customers prepare too.
Drip faucets to protect pipes anytime temperatures are below 20 degrees for more than four hours. (Collect water in buckets from dripping faucets to use in case of an emergency or fill a bathtub. MLGW recommends a three-day supply for drinking, cooking and flushing.)
As temperatures fluctuate, pipes and water mains can burst. Report water leaks inside homes and businesses as well as on the street to 901-528-4465 as soon as possible.
· If water pressure is low or there is no running water, there may be a frozen or burst water pipe which can lead to leaks and damage. If so, shut water off at the meter or the main valve inside the home.
· If water is pouring out of a building or coming up out of the street, it could be a broken sprinkler/fire suppression system or a broken water main.
Finding and fixing leaks quickly will help keep our water flowing like it should. A burst water pipe or water heater is considered to be an emergency situation and could pose a danger of flooding.
Customers can call 901-528-4465 to have water turned off. However, depending on demand, it could take some time for crews to respond.
