Cheryl W. Patterson, Vice President and General Counsel, is responsible for advising the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Board of Commissioners and MLGW staff concerning all legal obligations and privileges, as well as performing other legal services.
Before joining MLGW, Patterson was a partner with Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP law firm where she served as a member of the financial institutions and public finance services teams.
Patterson is a graduate of Wellesley College (1981) and Harvard Law School. She served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert N.C. Nix, Jr., Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Afterwards Patterson went into private practice in Philadelphia, PA and Memphis, TN.
Patterson is a member of the American, Tennessee, Memphis and National Bar Associations and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. She is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Pennsylvania.
Patterson has continued to enhance her leadership skills by participating in numerous civic engagements. She is a graduate of the 1998 class of Leadership Memphis and has completed the leadership development intensive class of the New Memphis Institute. Her expertise and strong leadership skills have given her the opportunity to serve as a board member with the Depot Redevelopment Corporation of Memphis and Shelby County (vice chair), the Shelby Farms Park Alliance (secretary), the Memphis Center City Revenue Finance Corporation, the Urban League, Girls, Inc., Bridges USA and the Tennessee Heritage Conservation Trust Fund.
