During the past few years, many organizations have bestowed a variety of honors and awards on Memphis Light, Gas and Water.

While we are proud of these accomplishments, we will continue to strive to exceed our customers' expectations.

These honors are a testament to the hard work and dedication of more than 2,600 MLGW employees who go the extra mile every day.

MLGW received the Herff Honor Award for Distinguished Service to Engineering

The University of Memphis award is given to organizations that have made significant contributions to engineering.

MLGW honored as LifeBlood's "Lifesaver of the Year"
For the third year in a row, MLGW has been awarded the LifeBlood Lifesaver of the Year, which is presented to the organization that collects the most blood among all groups in the Memphis area. MLGW employees donated 700 units of blood in 2011, making it the top donor organization in Memphis.

MLGW honored with national award for reliable electric operations
For the third time in six years, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has earned the American Public Power Association's (APPA) Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recognition for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.

The University of Memphis award is given to organizations that have made significant contributions to engineering.

MLGW received the American Public Power Association's (APPA) Community Service Award Tuesday, June 16 at APPA's national conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The award recognizes "good neighbor" activities that demonstrate the commitment of the utility and its employees to the community. The creation of a Community Conservation Day was a significant innovation in the various services offered to the MLGW community.

Bond ratings agencies reaffirm strong credit ratings for MLGW

Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division's strong financial fundamentals were recently reaffirmed by Standard & Poor's Rating Services and Fitch Ratings. Citing a stable outlook, S&P upgraded its rating for two MLGW electric system bonds.

The International Quality & Productivity Center recognized MLGW University as the "Best New Corporate University" during the 4th Annual Corporate University Best In Class (CUBIC) Awards in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

MLGW receives top awards from the Mid-South Minority Business Council

Memphis Light, Gas and Water wins the Mid-South Minority Business Council's (MMBC) prestigious Corporation of the Year award and the MMBC's Advocate of the Year honor.

MLGW wins Platinum RP3 Award

MLGW has earned the APPA Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Award, bestowed upon member utilities that demonstrate sound business practices and provide customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.

Memphis water noted as one of the nation's best by Men's Health

Men's Health recently rated drinking water quality in 100 U.S. cities, and Memphis water placed fifth on the list. MLGW's Water Quality Assurance Lab ensures the quality and safety of our water by conducting more than 38,000 tests ever year.

'AA' financial rating from Fitch solidifies MLGW's strong financial leadership and community benefits

Fitch Ratings, a leading global rating agency of bond issues, has affirmed its 'AA' rating of the utility's electric division. The 'AA' rating makes MLGW one of Fitch's most highly rated electric systems, and is further evidence of the utility's solid financial performance.

Standard & Poor's Affirms AA rating for electric division

Standard & Poor's Rating Services affirmed its AA rating and stable outlook for MLGW's electric system revenue bonds after its annual review of MLGW.

MLGW finishes 1st in APPA Lineworkers' Rodeo

A team of MLGW line workers took first place at the American Public Power Association's Public Power Lineworkers' Rodeo. MLGW also took top honors in the Apprentice Category.

Standard & Poor's Affirms AAA bond rating for water division

MLGW is the only utility in the nation to hold a AAA bond rating from Standard and Poor"s and a Aaa rating from Moody"s Investors Service.

MMBC's Corporation of the Year

MLGW was named the Mid-south Minority Business Council's (MMBC) "Corporation of the Year" at the Robert C. Church Awards. MLGW has placed as a finalist for Corporation of the Year twice in the last five years, and the win in 2004 marks the second time MLGW has won this prestigious award.

The Bond Buyer magazine's Deal for the Year

MLGW received national recognition through a nomination for The Bond Buyer magazine's "Deal for the Year Award" for its groundbreaking electric prepayment agreement with TVA.

TDEC Environmental Stewardship Award

MLGW was selected as the recipient of the 2004 Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC) Environmental Stewardship Award I the category of Tennessee Energy Leadership. The TDEC annually awards entities throughout the state of Tennessee for voluntary initiatives, programs and projects related to environmental stewardship.

United Way Spirit of Tennessee Award

MLGW received the spirit of Tennessee Award from United Ways of Tennessee Association for its leadership in its 2003-2004 United Way of the Mid-South giving Campaign.

Five awards from UCI

MLGW was honored with five Utility Communicators International (UCI) awards. UCI, an international consortium of professional utility communications, recognized MLGW's Summer Storm communications campaign with a coveted UCI Bronze Award.

First Place at TVPPA Lineman's Rodeo

MLGW lineman placed first at the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) Lineman's rodeo, and an apprentice placed first in individual events.

PRSA's VOX Awards

MLGW won the Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) Vox award for the summer Storm 2003 Crisis Communications Campaign, and was recognized with four Vox Gold awards.

APPA 4th Annual Lineworkers' Rodeo

MLGW line workers and apprentices placed 5th and 12th among 50 teams at the American Public Power Association's Fourth Annual Public Power Lineworkers' Rodeo. An MLGW apprentice placed fifth in the competition.

EPA 2003 Consumer Confidence Report Excellence Award

The United States Environmental Protection Agency named MLGW the winner of the 2003 Consumer Confidence Report Excellence Award for the Large Ground Water System in Region 4.

First Place, Tennessee Valley Lineman Rodeo

An MLGW team took first place and scored a perfect 500 in the team events at the Tennessee Valley Lineman Rodeo.

American Business Awards' "Best Communications Organization"

MLGW's corporate Communications department was named Best Communications Organization at the American Business Awards. The Awards panel included business leaders such as Donald Trump and Tony Robbins.

Minority Enterprise Development's "Corporation of the Year"

MLGW's Supplier Diversity program earned the utility Minority Enterprise Development's "Corporation of the Year." The Supplier Diversity program provides Uniform-Certification Agency-certified businesses with an equitable opportunity to partner with MLGW in buyer-seller relationships.

APPA E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award

The American Public Power Association (APPA) honored MLGW with this prestigious award in 1959, 1996 and again in 2001 in recognition of the utility's commitment to customer service and system-wide accomplishments that include enhancing the image of public power. Since the award's inception in 1959, MLGW is the only company to earn this award three times.

Mid-South Minority Business Council's (MMBC) "Corporation of the Year" award

After placing as a finalist in 2000, MLGW returned in 2001 to win this distinguished award for the utility's aggressive efforts to promote the growth of local and minority businesses. Through initiatives including MLGW's award-winning Supplier Diversity program and The Memphis Business Academy, MLGW amply met the award criteria which include: participation in MMBC programs, increasing dollars spent with minority-, women- and local-owned businesses, establishing or creating new business development programs and spending the required amount of money with these businesses and the MMBC.

APPA Community Service Award

This award is given to public power utilities that have shown a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in their communities through activities that address a community need or improve the community's social, cultural, educational or economic environment and provide an opportunity for employee involvement. MLGW earned this award for achieving these goals through its Project MAX Tiger Classic. During this annual event, MLGW employees paint and weatherize homes in impoverished areas of Memphis.
 

2001
Tennessee Conservation League's "Wildlife Conservationist of the Year"

The Tennessee Conservation League honored MLGW with this award for showing outstanding commitment to preserving the environment and natural resources that drive the utility's business. MLGW demonstrates exceptional environmental sensitivity through efforts such as wetland preservation, right-of-way naturalization and the recycling of utility byproducts.


2000
#1 Utility in the South as rated by J.D. Power and Associates

MLGW jumped forward from top-10 place in 1999 to the first position in 2000 in the residential utility customer satisfaction survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates. In a previous study, J.D. Power and Associates found that the key determinants of satisfaction in the electric industry are a utility's image, price, value of service, power quality and reliability - traits in which MLGW excels.
