Residential : ENERGY-SAVING TOOLS : ENERGY-SAVING CALCULATORS
There are hundreds of ways your home can save energy. Start by learning how your home uses energy--so you can find ways to save. Here's what we recommend:
1. Register for MLGW's My Account. You'll receive a FREE TVA ENERGY KIT by simply completing the "Home Profile" and "My Appliances" question sets under the "Home Energy Center" tab in My Account. Use the compact fluorescent bulbs, outlet gaskets, thermometer and other items in the kit to start saving this winter. (TVA will ship your kit in 8-10 weeks.)
2. Dig deeper by completing the questions under the "Find Ways to Save" section of My Account. You'll receive specific recommendations for making no-cost, low-cost and investment improvements to your home so you can prioritize your projects. Get your family members involved, too.
3. Use the Energy Smart Library to read more energy-saving tips, research heating topics, get advice on weatherization and more.
4. Use the Energy-Saving Calculators below to see how much it costs to operate your furnace, space heater, refrigerator and television, plus other equipment and appliances. You may be surprised at how quickly your energy dollars add up! In addition, use the calculators when shopping for new appliances to see how much money you'll save from buying an energy-efficient model, rather than a standard model.
5. Login to My Account each month to analyze your bill, including highlights about factors that caused your bill to change.
The more you know about energy use, the more you can save by being energy wise. Start saving energy today!
