    CONTROLLER

    Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division is a publicly-owned utility serving over 420,000 customers in Shelby County. It is the nation’s largest three-service utility. The utility provides a full range of customer-oriented services, including a major role in the city and region’s economic development. MLGW is seeking a Controller to direct and oversee the Division’s accounting activities and departments engaged in general/plant accounting, budgeting and utility rate management; and monitor and coordinate departmental work with internal departments and various external entities to meet Division objectives and compliance with city/state and federal government regulations.

    The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a Master’s of Accountancy or a Master’s of Business Administration. A Certified Public Accountant license (CPA) is preferred. Must have 8-10 years of progressive experience in one or more of the following functions: corporate-wide budgeting, general/plant accounting, and/or rate management. Must successfully complete NIMS Training within one (1) year of entering job. Must have a valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

    JOB TITLE: AUDITOR

    Duties:
    Conduct intermediate professional level independent audits of departments to determine the effectiveness of financial, administrative and operational controls; the reliability of accounting and other data; and the extent of compliance with federal, state and local regulations and standards and Division polices and procedures, in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditor (IIA) Standards.

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Must have 2 years experience in auditing techniques and practices. Professional certification recognized by the Institute of Internal Auditor (IIA) preferred. Must have skills in computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet packages, presentations, and audit software applications; and a working knowledge of personal computer-based operating systems. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

    JOB TITLE: Electronics Technician

    Duties:
    Perform installation, tests, maintenance/repair of various types of relays and electronic equipment/electrical instruments to transmission and distribution systems.

    Associate degree in Electrical, Telecommunication or Electronic Engineering Technology. Must successfully complete Color Blind I Test. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 004 “Electronics Technicians”)/Performance Exercises.

    Works inside/outside under varying conditions. Subject to hazards of falling, working in the proximity of high voltage equipment, gas and electricity, traffic, heavy lifting, climbing poles, ladders and ramps and chemical fumes. May work from a bucket truck.

    DUTIES:
    Process or refer calls from customers concerning service, billing matters and miscellaneous complaints; grant extensions on bills within qualified parameters; and handle calls from irate/hostile customers effectively.

    Must have successfully completed Data Entry Exercises, Group C. Must have successfully completed Placement (Group 007 “Customer Contact Representatives”)/Performance Exercises and Customer Service Simulation Test. Must be fluent in Spanish.

    Works in office. Subject to stressful environment handling customers using abusive language, noise, eye fatigue and sitting for long periods of time. Shift work required. Subject occasionally to mandatory overtime.

    JOB TITLE: Electronics Communications Technician

    DUTIES:
    Install, maintain, test and repair the Division’s two-way radio communication system, color video recording equipment and other diversified electronic equipment; locate electronic interference. Operate infrared scanner to perform heat surveys of transmission/ distribution/network systems and substations; locate and report equipment/components over-heating such as transformers, switches and capacitor banks; recheck completed maintenance repairs.

    Associate degree in Electrical, Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering Technology. Must successfully complete Color Blind I Test. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 004 “Electronics Technicians”)/Performance Exercises. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

    Works in shop and outside. Works in proximity of electrical equipment in substations and walk-in/underground vaults. Subject to medium lifting, climbing ladders, working with chemicals and standing for extended periods. May work from bucket truck.

    JOB TITLE: Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technician I

    Duties:
    Install and maintain various types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and controls according to specifications and codes; and perform other duties as directed.

    Must have knowledge/skills in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Must have certification as “Universal Technician” as required by EPA 40 CFR part, subpart F. Must be able to differentiate wire colors. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 03A “Mechanics”)/Performance Exercises and Physical Abilities Test (PCM Level II).

    Works inside and outside under varying conditions. Subject to the hazards of chemicals, working in proximity of steam boilers, electric equipment and operating machinery, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing/walking for long periods of time, pushing, pulling, grasping, and heavy lifting.

    JOB TITLE: Lead Computer Operation Specialist

    Duties:
    Train and direct the work of employees assigned to a shift and providing help desk support or computer operations functions within the area; operate various types of multi-programmed and multi-processing computer/auxiliary equipment; and process and load input/output data.

    Associate degree in Business Data Processing, Computer Operations, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field plus at least 6 years experience in the operation and/or monitoring of large mainframe, multi-application systems and help desk operations; or other Associate degree with at least 12 hours college accredited programming/computer courses plus at least 6 years demonstrated knowledge as stated above. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

    Works inside under good conditions. Subject to high frequency noise levels and other normal hazards associated in computer equipment operations, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching/pulling while removing/loading computer paper, sitting, standing/walking for long periods of time, eye fatigue, and medium lifting of computer forms/supplies. Shift work required.

    JOB TITLE: Computer Software Specialist (Level III)

    Duties:
    Apply advanced-level business and information technology system practices and/or project management methodology in analyzing information requirements to determine hardware/software solutions; develop project plans; and implement, develop or maintain enterprise information systems to meet project deliverables.

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or Business with a concentration in Information Systems or Math with a concentration in Computer Science or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 hours college accredited Information Technology or Information Systems courses plus six (6) years of experience in database, computer hardware/software, mainframe, networking, programming or system analysis skills depending on departmental need. Must meet proficiency requirements. Must have at least one (1) year of demonstrated experience as the primary support person for a particular system or application and at least demonstrated knowledge and skills in one (1) or more fields listed below. Experience and knowledge requirements will vary according to area and departmental needs. Systems Programming: Unix, LINUX, Windows 2003/8, Active Directory Services, Server Virtualization, VMWare, Storage Area Networks, Enterprise Backup Systems, Infrastructure Routing and Switching. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

    Works inside under good conditions. Subject to sitting for long periods of time at computer terminals, eye fatigue, grasping/reaching for technical manuals/printouts and distinguishing color, and occasional light lifting, bending, stooping/crouching to load computer equipment, paper and carry materials.

    Duties:
    Investigate, settle and/or gather information to settle all claims for/against the Division; and assist in other departmental work.

    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area; OR two year Associate Degree with 4 years of professional level experience in claim adjusting with property damage and personal injury experience; OR 8 years of professional level experience in claim adjusting with property damage and personal injury experience.
