MLGW Supports Neighborhood Progress with Aug. 2 Conference
July 29, 2013

MLGW will present its annual Neighborhood Leaders Conference at the MLGW Joyce M. Blackmon Training Center at 4949 Raleigh LaGrange on August 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The day consists of multiple workshop sessions where attendees can learn about Memphis’ most pressing neighborhood issues while networking with other community leaders.

The conference’s main focus this year is addressing the community’s environmental and business concerns. The theme of the conference is “Neighborhoods Get Down to Business,” and MLGW is encouraging its customers in the Mid-South to get involved. Community leaders and officials will be in attendance on behalf of their own neighborhoods, but will be sharing knowledge that can be applied to every community. “We want our future leaders to learn from the best,” said MLGW Director of Corporate Communications Gale Jones Carson. “But more importantly, we want everyone to have a place to connect, network and plan. It’s essential for the future of our communities.”

Attendees can choose from sessions such as “Urban Farming,” “Web-based Neighborhood Watches” “Cutting Utility Costs,” “Residential Code Enforcement,” “Activating Neighborhood Businesses,” “Great Leaders, Great Neighborhoods,” “A Business Journey,” “Business Support and Financing Resources,” and “Dial 3-1-1 for Community Concerns.”

Registration for the conference has already started and is available online at http://www.mlgw.com/forms/neighborhood_leaders. The conference fee of $10 pays for breakfast, a snack, lunch and an electronic collection of workshop documents.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
