Plug-In Electric Vehicles and Charging Infrastructure are coming
In 2006, the MLGW Board of Commissioners and the Memphis City Council passed resolutions of support for the Plug-In Memphis Partners Campaign.
Plug-In Memphis and other Plug-In partners across the United States have met the goal of helping build a market for Plug-In Hybrid Electric and Electric
vehicles (PHEVs). Through a collaborative effort with utilities, manufacturers, the technical and environmental communities and legislators, Partners have
demonstrated to automakers that the market exists today for PHEVs and electric vehicles.
Plug-In Memphis declares victory.
Plug-In Memphis (PIM) proudly announces Memphis, Tennessee as a member ECOtality’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Project. Through the efforts of the City of
Memphis, MLGW, Nissan North America and TVA, Memphis is now included in the initiative to advance the deployment of electric vehicles throughout the
local community and the country. As a result of the project’s expansion to Memphis, all residents of Tennessee are now eligible to participate in the EV
Project. Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville are other cities in the state that currently participate in the project. In Tennessee alone, 2,500 charging stations
within and connecting West to East Tennessee will be installed in the ECOtality project. This infrastructure will charge Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and other
plug-in electric vehicles. Tennessee is an initial launch market for the Nissan LEAF, and will be the manufacturing home of the vehicle in 2012.
Drivers of the Nissan LEAF zero-emissions electric car and the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid with extended range, who qualify to participate in The EV Project,
a residential charger will be provided free, and most if not all of the costs of installation will be paid for by The EV Project.

Overall, ECOtality North America will deploy nearly 15,000 charging stations in 18 cities located in six states (Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona,
Tennessee and Texas) and the District of Columbia. Nissan North American and General Motors/Chevrolet are partners in The EV Project.
ECOtality, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, is a leader in clean electric transportation and storage technologies. The project is funded by the
U.S. Department of Energy through a federal stimulus grant of $114.8 million, made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The
grants are matched by private investment, bringing the total value of the project to approximately $230 million. For more information about ECOtality, Inc.,
